I think Hamilton is progressing faster toward excellence

TSN football analyst Chris Schultz is back with his Week 16 selections in the CFL. The Big Man finished 3-1 in Week 15, and sits at 39-22 on the season. Now Schultz is ready for more action. In the return game in the battle of hidden yardage between Brandon Banks and Chad Owens I will give a slight advantage to Owens as he can break tackles better than Banks who relies on elusiveness alone. Interesting how the season has evolved as both teams are so similar in many ways that anticipatory logic says it will be a field goal game. Even the kickers, Justin Medlock for Hamilton and Swayze Waters for Toronto are equal in ability. So, Toronto by 3. Ottawa Redblack at BC Lions Great win for Ottawa over Winnipeg 42-20 last Friday night. Tough, very tough loss for BC by two in Hamilton, making it 3 in a row: Toronto, Calgary and then Hamilton. Urgency is on the side of BC as at 7-7 they are two games behind the Roughriders and Eskimos and five games behind first place Calgary. And Winnipeg is only one game behind BC for that final playoff, possible crossover spot. The Lions need Tim Brown and Stefan Logan back this week. Both have that unique level of explosiveness athletically that can change games. How to fit them in the ratio is the problem and if they can it could make a difference. I will be looking forward to watching Johnathan Williams again for Ottawa. If he can have a dominant running game for a second week in a row that will go a long way to an upset win for the Redblacks. Or maybe upset win is the wrong term. Back on September 5th BC beat 0ttawa but only 7-5. It was a close game where Travis Lulay re-injured his shoulder and there was a lighting delay. Urgency over satisfaction, BC over Ottawa. Saskatchewan Roughriders at Montreal Alouettes Strength for Montreal is coming off the bye week here in October. After the Roughriders, every game the Alouettes have is in the East with Toronto twice, and Hamilton and Ottawa once. In October all you can ask for is to control your own destiny and even at 5-8, if the As win all five it would be a 10-8 season and maybe good for first in the East. Jonathan Crompton may have yet to throw for 300 yards in his five starts but he is 4-1 and that has a much higher level of significance than a 300-yard game. With the Riders, Tino Sunseri coming off the bench has done a good job but that also means Montreal has video of him being his best. James Rogers for Montreal is quietly making a major contribution similar to Brandon Banks in Hamilton or Jock Sanders in Calgary. This game is a matchup of the power running of Saskatchewan against the deep ball receivers of Montreal: Duron Carter and SJ Green. In this one, deep ball wins. I’m going with Montreal. Winnipeg Blue Bombers at Edmonton Eskimos The first time these two teams played was July 17 and Edmonton was dominant and won 26-3. This could be a repeat. Coming off a loss in Toronto by one point in a game where Edmonton took 18 penalties for 224 yards you know they won’t be repeating that. And coming off a game where John White was shut down, that is unlikely to repeat as well. The saving grace for the 2014 season in Winnipeg is that no matter how it finishes, with four wins, four losses, or somewhere in between, they have found a quarterback that can be more than just good. Drew Willy has been the nice surprise of the season and will only get better. Not sure about everyone else as the season goes into the fourth quarter. Edmonton will respond after Toronto and Winnipeg had to respond if the Eskimos score first. Not sure they can do it. Fred Stamps is finding his groove, Adarius Bowman has already found his.
